Simon John Harvey (aka Xanda)

I never worry too much about the picture taking process – the camera is simply a means to an end; a means of collecting the raw material. I encourage models to present themselves in whatever way they choose, without direction from me. What interests me most is the way they interact with their environment whether it be on location or in the studio.

Much depends on the freedom of expression that the model brings to a shoot. Geometric poses, angular and specular background elements and props are enhanced in the post-capture processing, creating a structural blend that would be absent from a conventional portrait. In addition, the saturation of colours, or motion blurred digital noise where colours are not present in the scene, is boosted.

While not typical of most of the work I do, this technique is one I am currently developing for exhibition.
